Description:
The DTEC Ltd. GESOUT termination board connects via ribbon cable to the
GESPAC digital output card. This GESOUT termination board allows connection,
indication, and amplification for 32 digital outputs. A connection to
peripheral equipment is provided by the screw type terminal strips. The
indication of channel status is provided by LED illumination and amplification
is provided by a darlington NPN transistor which sinks the output. Illuminated
LED's signal an active output. The GESPAC digital output active state is active
high however and this sources the NPN transistor on the termination board,
therefore the active state of the GESOUT termination board is active low and
sinks the output. The LED's will illuminate when the output level is logic
ground on the GESOUT termination board. The GESOUT termination board receives
power and ground from the GESPAC Card through the ribbon cable, however power
ground to the transistors’outputs must come from the peripheral equipment power
supply.

Description:
The output channel from the GESPAC output card is connected to the base
of the NPN transistor. When an output channel level from the GESPAC output card
is active high this causes a voltage drop across the 1K5 ohm resistor. The
emitter of the NPN transistor is connected to ground, with the base having a
positive voltage on it this turns the transistor on. The collector of the
transistor is the output of the board and due to the transistor turning on and
the emitter being tied to ground the collector/output is connected to logic
ground level. When the transistor is on the output is being tied to logic
ground and illuminates the LED for that channel. Illumination of the LED is
created by current produced from the voltage drop across the 560 ohm resistor.
The 1K5 ohm sip resistors are rated for .2 watt per individual resistor, 1 watt
per sip package. The NPN transistor is rated to source 4 amps at a maximum
voltage of 80 VDC.
